Daily Cocaine: Stiffing is the new black...

Wow, I am so glad you are saving the world. With your mentality, I think I am not going to pay taxes either. And there is no way I am paying for a car anymore, because I am not going to pay the salesman salary. I am free too! Douchebag. I hope you soon find yourself unemployed and living off unemployment. Lets see how your principles are then.

Actually I tallied it up and realized that I could probably go at least a year without tipping and my lifetime 'tip average' would still be over 15%.

Times are tough these days, and I sure can use the buck or two when tipping someone only for opening my beer with a beer opener. And if that is all they do, as they aren't mixing drinks, but this only applies to places like dive bars, like Zeke's. But you won't see me stiffing my waiter/waitress, unless they do a HORRIBLE job.

I am a fairly constant 20% tipper. I see your point that the restaurant should pay higher wages but this would result in higher prices on the food/drink itself which would result in diners bitching and dining elsewhere. The current system in place allows me to use my discretion. If I dont appreciate the service, I dont give 20%. Its that easy. If I order a beer, I tip a buck but I dont necessarily do that every time I order a beer that night. Why? Because like you said, its someone reaching into a cooler and popping off a cap and placing an item on a bar. If Im in the mood or like the bartender, I'll tip the buck every time though. There are many people who I wont tip and I never feel bad for one second about it.

BTW, you owe me a tip for contributing to your blog. Cash is accepted.

I think the point Brody is trying to make WAITER is that the times for over--tipping are over. Also you are the douche bag for not understanding that the only fucking country in the world that allows the 15%-20% tipping formula is in the USA--that said, that the consumer US, must also pay for the services we are buying the FIRST place. You dig? In the US tipping has become a salary that has fallen on the consumers hands. Also, let's not forget that it spilled over other services such as serving coffee at Starbucks. Shouldn't they (the corporation) pay higher wages to their employees? No, obviously not, because the difference douche bag, has been matched by the consumer. OK I could keep going and going. Good for you Brody--bring this to everyone's attention.

Okay I did the math-probably $8K last year drinking/dining out. Probably about 25% average tip brings me to $2K in tips. If I spend about $4k this year, and don't tip at all, I'm still at 16.6% for the two years. If I say last five years, that's $40K on tabs spent drinking/dining out, and $10K in tips. That means if I halve my tabs to $4K/year for the next five years, I could stiff everyone and still be at 16.6 % for the decade. That's a damn fine decade.
